Why is Progressive TV Important? --
With over 4 billion viewers worldwide, television is the biggest audience in the world. Today, television is undergoing a signficant revolution. Internet connectivity is bringing web video and interactivity into the living room. This is an excellent opportunity for NGO's and progressive organizations to attract more interest and involvement from the "silent majority" regarding their activities.
Combining our efforts into one television "station" allows our community to better inform the public of our current siutation, provide information on global issues that is not available on networks, showcase best practices and successes, and highlight the interrelationships between issues -- from a variety of perspectives.
It is this variety of content and perspectives that will make Progressive TV interesting and relevant.

Design Approach -- The design features the top area geared for video viewing, with a simple interface for "sitback" viewing. Visually, the design is low key, allowing the video content to dominate. Video selection is accomplished through Playlists, Related Videos and Search. As the viewer scrolls down, more "web style" features are presented, including hyperlinks, menu items, featured articles, etc. Please note this is only one of many possible layouts.

Masthead Sponsor Area (top right) -- This area is for sponsor logos and ads. The amount of time displayed could relate to the sponsor level.
Video Player Features -- Features include sharing and social bookmarking, emailing, rating, full screen viewing, etc.
Playlist Features -- Can include tabs for Newest, Highest Rated, Most Commented, etc. Consider a drop down list for "Subject Area". More sophisticated playlists will require custom API programming and are not shown in this demo. Some custom programming is included in the proposed budget.
Related Videos -- This thumbnail-only playlist is automatically populated using special tags which are attached to each video. This allows sponsors to show their related videos. When you mouse over each picture, the details of the video appear in a pop-up window.
Related Articles & Links -- Links are tied to the specific video that is currently playing. Clicking on a link will open a new window, so Progressive TV always stays on the screen.
Lower Sponsor Area --
NGO's, progressive websites and corporations may be interested in having advertising linked to uploaded (and approved) videos. The ads would appear in the lower sponsor area. This could generate revenue for the site. Video ads could be considered for this area, as it is not visible without scrolling and would not compete with the video player.
Viewer Comments -- Viewer comments are tied to the video in the player. Most sites require viewers to register to post comments. Comments can be rated by viewers and be displayed from highest to lowest. Comment content and moderation policies should be developed.
